Description: This is a very rare clock maker's, watchmaker's or jeweler's spiral archemedian drill with a collect type chuck. It is a simple type that move counterclockwise when you push the brass slide toward the chuck, then clockwise when you pull it away from the chuck. This drill is only 4.25" long overall, with a chuck capacity of about .2-.5". The end cap and slide are brass, the rest is steel construction. This drill is marked "FRANCE" in tiny lettering. Clock maker's have used this type of hand drill for at least a few hundred years, some had long bow (like a violin bow) that would drive the drill, where this one has only a spiral drive system that turn only 2 full rotations per stroke. A very hard to find miniature tool!
