Description:
This is a fine quality heavy gauge American sterling silver basket with an elegant and beautifully executed pierced design of fruit and leaves. It has been expertly and masterfully made by the silversmiths at the renowned Roger Williams Silver Company and was originally retailed through the Shreve Company of San Francisco. It rests upon four gracefully scrolled feet surrounded by decorative leafy elements and its upper rim and also its lovely hinged handle have been prettily decorated in a similar manner but with the addition of delightful floral motifs amidst the scrolling foliage. The interior consists of an extravaganza of meticulously crafted leaves, grape clusters and pears artfully and stylishly arranged in a distinctive and attractive pattern all around the center of the basket. Everything is in excellent, pristine condition, the silver having a soft and pleasing patina and the decoration all being crisply and clearly defined. It is marked on the underside with a pattern number, the word Sterling, the identifying symbol of the Roger Williams Silver Company of Providence, R.I. and the words Shreve & Co. It measures approx. 14" x approx. 10 " wide and stands approx. 11" tall to the top of the handle. It weighs a substantial 44 troy ounces and would make a distinctive and sophisticated addition to any sideboard or dining area.
