Description:
Henry J. Davies was the General Manager of the Ansonia Clock Company in Brooklyn, New York. In 1875 he Patented a fascinating double-mirrored clock with a glass dome and two barrel pendulum which he named the CRYSTAL PALACE @2. This fine example of his clockmaking ingenuity retains its original wood finish and old mirrors. The dial paper has been replaced. The eight-day mechanism runs well and strikes the hours on a nickle bell. Its glass dome is without any cracks or breaks. On the back of the wood case is an almost perfect paper label listing the Davies Patent with an 1875 date printed on it (see photograph). On the brass mechanism is the signature: "Ansonia Clock Company, Ansonia, Connecticut, USA". Davies' name is also embossed onto the two barrel pendulum--marking it as original to the case. This is a surely "keeper" for anyone who values originality and clean, good operating clocks.
