Description:
This very beautiful ANCIENT LI INCENSE DING was carved from a Semi-Translucent GREEN Nephrite Jade gemstone sometime during the Eastern Han Dynasty. What you are looking at is a Chinese jade artifact that has been transformed by the hands of time to possess a brilliant rich rustic reddish yellow patina that is the result of calcification and cinnabar infusions that only time and burial in the earth could have created. There are two simplistic handles on each side of this vase that has conical holes possibly for the attachment of a wooden or bronze haft. The shape of this ANCIENT LI INCENSE DING is simplistic and traditional. The use of the Ding was originally designed to feed the ancestors food and to celebrate their lives and the all living family members. This vase is in Very GOOD Condition, no major cracks or chips except for minor pitting and suffusions that attest to the artifacts age. The beautiful Semi-Translucent GREEN Nephrite Jade gemstone exhibits calcification and a rich reddish yellow patina over its entire surface and inside it's bowl. The ANCIENT LI INCENSE DING was fashioned from Semi-Translucent GREEN Nephrite Jade whose original color has been completely altered by time and burial in the earth to possess a most magnificent deep rustic yellow and red patina. If you will note the ancient crackled surface and mineral leaching is the result of only time and burial in the earth can create.
