Material: Solid bronze, old lost wax casting with a heavy concentration of copper to the tin alloy
Period: 17th century conservatively, excavated burials date back to the 9th century
Dimensions: 4 1/4" height, 3" width, 2 7/8" depth; weight is 11.9 ounces
Condition: Exceptional. Exquisite signs of age, wear from prolonged tribal use, extensive burial
Held in private collection, the condition of this piece remains unchanged from the time of its original 1940's field acquisition. Previous caretaker added a smaller bell hung via a brass wire as a replacement for the original clapper, easily removed if you prefer. Gorgeous dark chocolate patina displays subtle brassy highlights, a substantial layer of verdigris suggests previous burial.
