Description: This unusual necklace was put together from several different elements by the BLANCHAR’S EGYPTIAN MUSEUM and it comes with a certificate of authenticity issued in the early 20th century that reads:
“BLANCHAR’S EGYPTIAN MUSEUM SHARIA KAMEL, CAIRO, EGYPT 485-750.
A very interesting Ancient Egyptian Scarab in blue glazed faience, found at Gebel el Touna Upper Egypt, near the site of the recently discovered temple of Pet-Osaires. It dates from the XXVI th to XXX th Dynasty, 600-300 years B.C. and was made by the ancient Egyptians as a statuette of the beetle god KHEPER and it was the symbol of “immortality”. All the blue beads in the necklace are ancient and dated between 1500 and 900 years B.C. Guaranteed genuine, R.H. Blanchard. The modern silver gilt setting represents the Cartouche, or REN of the ancient Egyptians and the yellow decorations are PERSIAN BENZAHIR stones upon which the pious moslems repeat the 99 known names of Allah.”
R. H. Blanchard was an American antiquities dealer in Cairo, his shop was located next door to Cairo's Shepheard's Hotel (a fashionable hotel for international travelers during the 19th and 20th centuries), he published in 1909 a book “Handbook of Egyptian Gods and Mummy Amulets”.
