Description:
One of the nicest American Indian Pictures ! This is a framed oil painted portrait of Chief Joseph Orono. The oil painted portrait is painted on deer hide & the work is so very interesting .Being very dimentional it appears that the face & arms are actually raised above the other parts of the picture almost as if the skin was pulled tight over a carved portrait then painted .The colors & detail are truly amazing .The warmth & richness are beyond words .This portrait on deer hide is housed in a very simple heavy wood frame that is either oak or mahogany with a lot of built up surface crust .The portrait is tacked onto a wood surface under the glass .This portrait dates from the mid 19th century & measures over all in the frame 33 3/4" high x 35" wide .The sight size of the picture is 29" high x 31" wide .This is a very heavy frame with lots of wood & I should think , not only would this make a grand addition to the American Indian collection, but would also be just dynamite in the great room of a log home !
