Description:
Exquisitely detailed Neoclassical chandelier with original fabulous gilded finish. Has a total of fourteen lights. Twelve on the outside arms and two in the center hand cut globes. This magnificent chandelier came from the dining room of Marrcrest. The Italian Renaissance mansion was built by Walter Lorenzo Marr, Buick Company's chief engineer, in 1927. It was also the inspiration for Dr. Landes "The Four Seasons of Marrcrest", a piano concerto, later scored for orchestral performance. Walter Marr oversaw the development of the two cylinder, four cylinder and six cylinder engines. To quote Terry B. Dunham, author, " Walter Marr is, in my opinion, a credit to the early development of the automobile industry in this country and a vital part of the process. I further believe that without his brilliant engineering skills and guidance, there would probably not be a Buick automobile today." The chandelier is extremely heavy and massive in feel. The overall width is 42", the height to the top of the cluster is 5' and the overall height is 6'. It has been professionally rewired.
