Here is a large and comprehensive sterling dinner service by Allan Adler in the Modern Georgian pattern, discontinued 1969. It is a service for 12 with 14 good servers in an elegant brass mounted 2-tier Gorham chest. Each piece is exquisitely handcrafted giving it a very appealing hammered texture. This set was, after all, made by a master craftsman. In 1938 Allan Adler,1916-2002, was introduced to and trained in this craft by another great arts and crafts silversmith, his father-in-law Porter Blanchard. Two years later Adler launched his own business and rose to become one of the most celebrated silversmiths of his time. The set consists of: 12 Dinner knives 9.5" Stainless blades. 12 Dinner forks 7.75" 12 Steak knives 8.5" Stainless blades. 12 Salad forks 6.5" 12 Teaspoons 6" 12 Dessert spoons 7" 12 Butter knives 6.25" 2 Vegetable serving spoons 9.75" 2 Vegetable serving spoons 7.75" 2pc Salad set 9" 1 Cold meat fork 9.5" 1 Cake saw 10.5" 1 Pie slice 11.25" 1 Gravy ladle 6" 1 Butter pick 6.5" 1 Sugar shovel 6.25" 1 Jam spoon 7" 1 Jelly server 7.5" 1 Gorham brass-mounted chest. Total 99 pieces. Weighable 143 Troy oz. All pieces are fully hallmarked: ALLAN ADLER-D HANDHAMMERED STERLING and bear the monogram PH*C. All in excellent pre-owned condition.
