Description:Vintage Alice Caviness Field of Flowers Pin/Brooch and Earrings
This is just a Beautiful set. One of the prettiest Alice Caviness sets I have seen and I have seen quite a few over the last few years that I have been exploring Vintage Jewelry.
The pin has beautiful decorative Filigree on the front and back. The Porcelain center piece is Hand-Painted with lovely Pink and Yellow flowers. It is approximately 1 1/2" by 1 1/4". The entire pin is approximately 2" by 2 1/2". The Filigree has small Pink, White, Green and Yellow faceted glass beads (approximately 4mm) surrounding the center piece. The Filigree and center piece are amazing!
The earrings mirror the pin exactly except for size. The earrings are approximately 1" by 1 1/4".
The set is Hand-Painted and Hand-Made!
Very Elegant, Season-Spanning and Professional!
This set is in Excellent Condition!
Alice Caviness, in my opinion, was a woman ahead of her time. She started her business in 1945. Her jewelry was not just adornment. It made a statement about the women who wore it. Her jewelry is very scarce as she demanded the highest quality and her jewelry was only sold in very high-end boutiques. She used striking colors and bold color combinations. She was very generous with her knowledge of business and jewelry. Two of her proteges benefited greatly from her generosity. Canaille Pernio eventually became the head designer for another famous jeweler. Lois Steeper became president the Alice Caviness company in 1980. Alice Caviness retired in 1970. Sadly, she passed away in 1983 but, fortunately for us, her legacy lives on. (Reference "Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry" by Marsha Brown. This is a fascinating book that covers many designers and their histories.)
