A French etcher of street scenes and architecture, Alfred Brunet-Debaines began his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1863. At this time he also learned etching techniques under such masters as Maxime Lalanne and Jules Jacquemart. Alfred Brunet-Debaines exhibited his first etchings at the Paris Salon in 1866.Around 1870, Alfred Brunet-Debaines was invited to England by the influential writer and critic, Philip Gilbert Hamerton. Hamerton commissioned this artist to contribute original etchings to his publications, such as, The Portfolio and Etching and Etchers. Alfred Brunet-Debaines thus spent a large part of his career working and living in London and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1872 to 1886. Many major museums in both France and England include examples of his etched art in their permanent collections. [Source: ]
