Description: For sale is an Alco Japan black cat planter. High gloss vintage black cat planter. Click on the picture to enlarge it because this cat is worth looking at viewing up close. It has the most amazing vivid green eyes and has an incised mark on the bottom: ALCO Japan. It measures 5.25 x 3.5 with no chips or cracks. It also has some gold flecks of paint near his head and feet. Black cats are said to be lucky in Japan. And this one does seem to bring good luck. A very nice vintage piece of pottery that is heavier than most Japan items I come across. Probably dates to the 1950's as this is when black cats, especially salt & papper shakers were popular, and came in from Japan after WWII.
