Description: AFRICAN ARTIFACTS: BAULE pronounced (Bah-oo-lay) MONKEY FIGURE -Ivory Coast. (Gberke) Son of the God in Heaven. Receives sacrificial offerings and bowl in hands to hold an egg. These figures were not intended for public display. Measurements are 38" X 10" and 9 lbs, 4.2 oz. NOTE: THESE ARTIFACTS ARE FROM AN ESTATE IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND. In order to provide the most acdurate information, in addition to what accompanied the artifacts, I confered with the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution. Each artifact is listed as “IN THE STYLE OF” (ARTICULATED EXAMPLES OF 20th. CENTURY EXOTIC DÉCOR).
