Description: I am pleased to be able to offer this fantastic piece of brown/polychrome transferware, in the very desirable Mysore pattern. The piece was made by Edge, Malkin & Co., Staffordshire potters. The familiar whippet backstamp dates to 1873. The Mysore pattern combines a lovely central image (similar to the Daffodil pattern) with a mosaic of designs on the lower portion of the piece. There are two figures in a punt-type boat on a lake, with a church on the bank in the background. Oversized flowers define the left side, and there is a diamond-shaped frame also. This frame shows a scene with a sailboat on the water. A row of dianthus-type flowers is at the lower edge of the scene, and a twig "swing" is at the upper right, with a bird and butterfly.

The lower portion of the pattern has a complex of floral and geometric patterns, a blossoming branch, and a half-circle frame with a pond scene. The transfer has been done in a soft brown, and the polychrome decoration uses rose, blush, aqua, and pale yellow. These colors are applied in a delicate way, so the whole effect is very harmonious. The edge of the underplate has a caramel luster border, and the dome has several narrow bands of gilded decoration.

The underplate measures 8-3/4", and the dome is 6" across by 5" to the top of the finial. There is a tight hairline on one side of the dome, with very slight discoloration at the bottom. Other than that, there are no cracks, chips, or repairs. Clean crazing is consistent with age, and there is mild discoloration on the underside of the underplate. A beautiful embossed design goes around the upper edge of the dome, and the finial has a very sculptural form. This piece is a most unusual find, and would be a beautiful addition to your collection.

Thank you for viewing my listing.
