Description: An exceptional late Victorian era (1880's) etagere. This ebonized etagere is made of cherry and is the height of quality and craftsmanship for the aesthetic era. It measures 4' wide, 7' high and 15" deep. The width makes this very pleasing to the eye as larger ones (5' and wider) tend to be heavy looking. Highlights of the piece are two bowed shelves, deeply carved panels, pierce carved fretwork and crest, bevelled mirror and glass doors, and finely turned finials. Retains original brass hardware except 2 escutcheons on doors replaced. Finish is 75% original with some minor overcoating for preservation and restoration work done on lower shelf. Unsigned but an upper level maker of the era , herter brothers or kimble & cabus are two names that come to mind when looking at the quality. Northeaster American made probably New York.
Status: For Sale Reference#: 14_141bb
Condition: good original finish w/ some overcoating Year: c1880
