The sculpture is modeled in the form of a nude female figure with windswept cape and/or hair fighting/assailing a wailing mermaid figure on a rectangular base. The bronze features a verdigris patina. The top edge/rim of the rectangular base is signed: "YULLA". There are no visible foundry, date or edition marks on the bronze. Yulla Lipchitz (born Yulla Halberstadt), a sculptor, was married to Jacques Lipchitz (born Chaim Jacob Lipchitz, Lithuanian-born French Cubist Sculptor, 1891-1973) in 1948, after which the couple moved to Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. After Jacques death, Yulla completed the enlargement of Jacques sculpture "Our Tree of Life" and supervised its installation on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem in September of 1978. This sculpture is very similar in style to the work of husband, Jacob Lipchitz (similarities include the narrative scene, abstracted figures, rectangular base and verdigris patina). Dimensions: 9-1/8" High, 9-1/4" Wide, 8" Deep. Weight: 14lbs. Condition: There is some very minor rubbing/wear to the surface and edges of the bronze. There is some light shelf-wear to the underside of the base. Otherwise, the sculpture is in very good condition.
