Description:
Likely the largest silver-gelatin photograph on the face of planet earth. This hand colored photograph is of one Mrs. Hibbing who's husband was the founder of Hibbing,Minnesota. By the look of this ornate frame and the sheer pomposity of the piece, she thought the world or least Minnesota rotated around her.
And it may have given her waist line.
The talented photographer who has signed this photograph is one M.Feinstein. And he really did a remarkable job in the hand tinting which is superb and the composition of the work itself. The photograph including the large oak frame measures 38.5 inches wide and 52' inches tall. Yes it is that large. And let me say it likely cost hundreds of dollars back in the late 19th century. There is a brass plate at the bottom of the photograph which simply states: "Mrs. Hibbing."
If you look at her this photograph was likely just about life-size. She looked to be about 4'10 and weighed about 300 pounds. And her hat made up about 10 inches of that! I mean this lady was a little green machine. The only clue I have of her history was that this item came from a West Palm Beach picker about 15 years ago from an old Circus collection.
Her bright Irish Green dress, along with a comical tiny head, on top of her Sherman Tank physique certainly suggest she was part of the the Big Top but actually the Gopher state.
If you have an Irish Bar or a Pub this piece would be the center of attention. Heck you could even call the place:
"Mrs. Hibbing's watering hole."
Somewhere out there in this wide, wide world of sports there must be a home for Mrs. Hibbing.
Thank you for your interest and consideration.
