Turquoise>br> Turquoise is probably one of the most recognized semiprecious gemstones in existence; it has been popular since prehistoric times. A common misconception is that turquoise, or Turks’ stone, comes from Turkey, when, in truth, turquoise does not occur in Turkey but was traded at Turkish bazaars to Venetian merchants who brought it to Europe. The color, however, has been employed extensively in the decorative tiles adorning Turkish places of worship and homes for hundreds of years. It is considerably softer than quartz, and thus, is usually treated in some way for stability.

It occurs naturally in shades ranging from sky blue through aqua, greens, and grays. It is usually found in locations where copper is hidden in the soil in high concentrations. The color blue is caused by copper, while the green color is caused by iron or chromium.

Silver and turquoise jewelry is increasingly renowned around the world. Turquoise is New Mexico's gemstone and is recognized as the birthstone of December. Throughout human history, the stone has been revered and admired for its beauty and reputed spiritual life-enhancing qualities.

Turquoise, known as the “sky stone” by Native American Indian tribes in the Southwest, is an ancient talisman for health and happiness. People all over the world have long been captivated by turquoise. Other cultures believe turquoise is one of the loveliest of gemstones and possesses protective powers. Turquoise appeals to us because every stone is unique. We value the fact that turquoise comes in so many colors and varieties.

Sterling silver
Pure Silver has a brilliant white metallic luster. It is very ductile and malleable below gold and palladium (one of the platinum metals). Sterling silver is the standard for beautiful, high quality silver jewelry being over 90% pure silver mixed with alloys to add strength and durability. The metal will not wear down.

Sterling silver is 92.5% (925 parts) pure silver and 7.5% (75 parts) alloy metal. It has been indicated that the sterling silver jewelry, with a small amount of copper added, has very little effect on the metal’s value. The price of the sterling silver jewelry item will be affected by the labor involved in making the item, the skill of the craftsperson, and the intricacy of the design.

Marks used, engraved onto either the back side or the inside of each piece of jewelry include “sterling“, “ster.”, 925, or .925 and 92.5. Sterling Silver has the most ideal percentage of metal for having durability and natural bright sheen and the patina adheres to polish bringing the beautiful jewelry piece back to its original appearance when new.
