What is a druzie?
When water carrying dissolved silica is forced into a cavity in a rock and rapid cooling occurs, tiny crystals are formed on the surfaces of the rock cavity and form druzie or druzy. Most people have heard of a geode. When the crystalline surface is small enough inside the geode, it is called druzy and is suitable for jewelry. The surface looks a lot like a large collection of crystals of colored sugar. They glisten and shine when the stone is moved or when the light source moves. This druzie is yellow with the tiniest flecks of black.
This fascinating pendant weighs approximately 25.6 grams, and is a beautifully crafted art deco style geometric piece with a lustrous ecru segmented pearl on the top that measures about 11.5mm, and below that two silver beads, next an oval cabochon cut bezel set quartz stone that measures about 11 by 17mm, then two luscious white pearls that measure about 7mm, and lastly, a glittering yellow druzie that measures about 17 by 18mm, almost square and irregular rather than flat topped. The quartz stone has a soft blue pearlescence that glows gently from underneath.
It is hallmarked 925 indicating that it is made of sterling silver, the standard for beautiful, high quality silver jewelry being over 90% pure silver mixed with alloys to add strength and durability. The metal will not wear down. (See below)
