Description:
That's what is written inside the remaining half of the case "Sweet sixteen Ha! HA! Mary". Was it Mary herself who wrote that or a jealous girlfriend called Mary? We will never know. What we do know is that the sitter is quite lovely but would have been a gorgeous Mona Lisa wannabe had she smiled a little. This dag is PRISTINE! I tried to capture the clarity, details and overall excellent contrast in these scans but have not succeeded. It is stunning in reality. The focus is so crisp, every detail of the lace cuff is there for us to admire. The young lady moved her head ever so slightly during the exposure creating a lovely softness. The cheeks are lightly tinted and the jewelry picked out with gold. One tiny speck remained trapped under the glass during the resealing process. Far more prominent in these scans than when held in hand. Exactly as it came to me. Note that the top half of the case was lost long ago. A 6th plate measures 3.25" x 2.75" without the case....Please enlarge my photos for a closer look....To view MORE PHOTOGRAPHIC ITEMS I have listed...just click on the "VIEW THIS DEALER'S OTHER ITEMS" button on the left, then type the word in the search box.
