Description: A fine and most rare Hudson valley mantelpiece having a moulded and bowed shelf. The mantel frieze has a wonderful selection of regional folk art including English fan paterae, one with sunflower center. Quarter fan paterae are contained with round ones in panels beside the central tablet which also has turned columns and dished flutes. This is in turn supported by fan carving, panels and diamond belt work. The mantel jambs or legs are mounted with turned vassa form columns. The upper members are small vases and the lower ones with rich turnings. All are supported on ball feet and are footed with projected plinths. The mantel opening is mounted with a richly moulded trim section. This mantel is a beautiful statement of Americana crafts shop incorporating both the Dutch and English cultures found along the Hudson river. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1794)
