Description:
To an interesting Chester County, Pennsylvania farm house mantel of the c.1790-1810 period. The shelf is trimmed to reveal a blocked section above a cove moulding ending as a bead on the plain frieze. The mantel jambs and frieze are crossed with a moulded trim section forming a crossetted corner top. The hearth surround is trimmed with an applied bead member. Interesting to note are the tennon pins at the top of the legs or jambs. These show the 18th century joinery construction of the mantel. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting.
This mantel should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes.
