19th C Decorative Antique French Hand-Colored Engraving
Description: Hand-colored engraving on paper, framed (no glass). Printed along lower edge: "Peint sur Verre par Pierre Roben Juillet 1826 pour la cabinet de M. Du sommerard d'apres A. Fragonard". "Imitation de la peinture sur verre du XVI Siecle. 1er Essai execute en 1826". "FRANCOIS 1ER POSANT CHEZ LE TITIEN". The print may be a later reproduction. Dimensions: Paper (sight): 13 x 9 1/2in. Frame: 21 x 17in. Weight: 2 lbs. Condition: Sheet is completely pasted between mat and backing board. Paper is slightly darkened throughout and there are a few areas of craquelure to the ink where it is applied more heavily. One light yellow stain that is about 1/2" long located 1/2" from the left side and 1" from the lower left corner. Otherwise in good condition overall. Artist's Biography:
