Description:
This basket along with two others that I obtained originated from Pennsylvania. This one is the largest and in the nicest shape. In the 18th and 19th centuries primarily German households used these baskets to make bread in. Rye baskets were also used to place foods into and then covered. Mice will not eat into the rye bowls (as some other's are vulnerable), and this sweet grass was preffered over others for just this reason. This particular bowl is in very good and sound shape. Condition: The bowl appears to have had dough in it at one point (don't know how long ago), and it appears to have been green? I am hesitant to wash this.. Otherwise the basket is in wonderful shape. I have discounted this bowl due to this very reason. We insure all items for shipment.
