Description: Outstanding 19th century French spelter mariner standing atop ships bow beside a colossal anchor preparing to cast the realistic twisted rope line, in high relief with splendid movement in the round, original patina in very good condition, titled "Secours" on the front which translated to "help" (perhaps rescuing a sinking ship or an overboard comrade), signed Waagen Sept on the cut-away back of the ship, measures an impressive 27 1/2 inches (70cm) in height. The artist WAAGEN, Arthur (b.1869) is listed and this piece would make a spectacular addition to any fine household or collection.
