Description: 19th century immitation of one of the Meissen figurines of the seasons, made by Capodimonte in Germany.

Measures: 8 3/8"high. Base is 3" in diamter.

Beautiful figurine of a woman, representing summer. She is dressed to represent the Pagan symbolism of Summer, a large bundle of wheat under one arm, ears of corn forming a crown around her head.
She stands on a round base with moulded and gilded trim.
Very fine detail of feet, hands, hair and face and wonderful modelling of the figure and robes.

Marks:Blue underglaze N under a crown.

Condition: general condition is very good. There is a kiln crack where the bundle of wheat joins her body. This is original to the piece and a purist would not change it. After a careful search, I found that she has lost the inside thumb of her left hand - quite hidden by the pose. I could find no other damage.

Status: For Sale Reference#: 454
