This beautiful 1987 Plate, Christmas Eve at the Whitehouse, is from the continuing Christmas in America Collection by Bing & Grondahl Copenhagen Porcelain. Bing & Grøndahl was a Danish porcelain manufacturer founded in 1853 by the sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and merchant brothers Meyer Hermann Bing and Jacob Herman Bing. When they introduced their under glaze blue decorations in 1886, for the first time Royal Copenhagen had competition. Bing & Grondahl introduced their annual Christmas plates beginning in 1895. Royal Copenhagen introduced their Christmas plates in 1908. In 1987 the company merged with its primary competitor, the Royal Porcelain Factory under the name Royal Copenhagen. Marked on the back: Production of this plate is limited to the year 1987. The original art was painted excluseively for Bing & Grondahl by Jack Woodson / Purveyor to Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark / 9787 / Plate no. 7. 610 F / Bing & Grondahl. In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 5 1/8 inches in diameter. A beautiful Christmas scene of people gathering at the Whitehouse.
