1954 Vintage Mid-Century American Airlines 2-pg Color Ad- Spectacular Bikini Girl Al Parker Artwork. This is an absolutely magnificent example of Pin-Up Glamour Art in Mid-Century Ads taken from an issue of Holiday Magazine. In the early fifties, jet travel made flying more accessible to the masses and companies such as American Airlines were intent on gaining popularity with a series of incredibly bright, beautiful and excellently executed ads such as this one. Ad utilizes the talents of artist Al Parker lending humor charm and provocation to the idea of travel by American Airlines. Mountains or Beaches or Both asks the ad with one page of a cute couple in fishing gear and a map of the universe showing all the places American can take you while the second page features a Va-Va-Voom worthy blonde in a very from fitting bikini of orange and navy blue peeping up at the reader through half closed eyes and lounging on the beach at Waikiki- actually the same gal in the shapeless fishing togs on page one. This wonderful ad looks even better in person - I've included a scan of each page to give you some idea of how beautiful the images are. Al Parker's works for American Airlines launched an incredibly successful decade and helped give rise to the term Jet Age. Each page measures 11 x 14 and the image is in bright, clean overall condition. Take note that the bikini featured on page two was the height of daring in 1954 and would have been called a Riviera Bikini- and seen on actresses such as Birgitte Bardot.
