Description:
1951 Slightly Risque Vintage Mid-Century Ad- Perky Pirate Pin-Up Gal Digs New Treasure Island Handbag by Ronay. Wonderfully Naughty Original Vintage Mid-Century Ad taken from the stylish pages of a Spring, 1951 issue of Harper's Bazaar Magazine. During the Mid-Century a flourishing creative spirit swept commercial art most noticeably within the fashion world. Magazine ads were clever slick, beautiful daring and occasionally a trifle campy yet always alluringly composed to enchant the viewer and enhance the glamour and desirability of the product. Here unknown artist has created a sexy pin-up sketch of a perky pirate maiden in scanty costume and swashbuckling boots who has uncovered the latest spring novelty treasure a stunning scintillating scarlet handbag designed by Ronay- in suede or dressier patent. Ad is absolutely delightful in person- the artist must have been inspired either by Art Deco Roger Brothers Silver ad which frequently featured pin-up pirate artwork or the renewed interest in popular pirate lore through a recent spate of swashbuckling films. Measures 10 x 14 condition is bright and crisp in person. Actual ad is a little lighter than the scan and will frame gorgeously!
