Description:
Outstanding pair of well designed, detailed & realistically modeled bookends featuring a cowboy on a bucking horse kicking up dust. Note the Western belt decorating the bottom edge.
These are not marked but my research turned up an identical copper colored pair marked "MCA 1948". According to information generously supplied by a viewer, "MCA" stands for "Metal Corporation of America", a Los Angeles firm in the 1940s. Records are sketchy but it is thought, according to Carolyn Martin (author of 2 current super metal items books) that MCA was owned by Gladys Brown Edwards' husband. Which probably means she designed for them.
They are made of Spelter or "white metal" which was first copper plated before being silver plated. The condition is excellent. They were filthy, it took me hours to hand-polish them.
