Description:
Vintage Baseball aquired from an estate. Original owner was a big New York Yankees fan. His family were owners of a well-established Hotel in a small West Virginia town. Along with being a fan of the Yankees, he wrote many stars/entertainers of his era and prior and they would send him back an autograph, sometimes with a personal memo.
Anyhow, conerning the Baseball: I'm assuming but I do not know for certain that he attended this game (Doubleheader). Baseball must have had some meaning, as when I acquired it it was in a plastic ball case and at some point the Ball looks have been lacquered/glazed for protective purpose.
Writing is on 3-sides of the Ball. Says Detroit vs. New York Briggs Stadium July 30, 1944 Doubleheader Att. 47,936. To the right side of this it lists the Scorebox for both games 1st N.Y. 10 15 0---Detroit 2 9 2. Underneath this is the last names of the starting Pitchers Borowy (Hank) and Overmire (Stubby) 2nd N.Y. 7 16 3---Detroit 13 15 1. Pitchers Donald (Atley) and Newhouser (Hal). To the right side of the Scoreboxes is a list (last names/position) of the Starting Yankee Players for Game 1. Stirnweiss, 2 (Snuffy); Stainback, RF (Tuck); Martin, LF (Hersh); Lindell, CF (Johnny); Etten, 1 (Nick); Hemsley, C (Rollie); Grimes, 3 (Oscar); Milosevich, SS (Mike); Borowy, P (Hank)
Condition of the Baseball I would consider to be very good. Other then the writing on the Ball I see no other markings but with the stitching it appears to be older legitimate Baseball. If you have any additional questions or need more photos please be sure to ask in advance. Would make a fine addition to any New York Yankees memorabilia collection. Buyer to pay shipping & insurance.
Also if your a Yankees fan please be sure to check out the large Scrapbook collection and Autographs I have to offer from the same estate.
