Description: 1940 Superb Vintage Deco Al Parker Journal Magazine Illustration- Breezy Couple Enjoys Cafe Counter-Top Romance. Absolutely Stunning Original Vintage Late Deco Color Magazine Illustration. Done by artist Al Parker with his inimitable flair and charm, this illustration was done for a short story featured in the August, 1940 issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Wonderfully styulish couple relax over cups of coffee in a cafe- she wears a striking red and white plaid suit and scarlet wide-brimmed hat covering the speldid contours of her beautiful face- he smiles into her eyes and sports a natty white linen suit with boldly blue polka-dot tie- the background of the scene is also done in shades of red white and blue and there is- as with all work by fantastically talented artist Al Parker- just a much attention to detail done for the diners in the background as the main couple. Note that all aspects of the iamge are done in the three shades giving it depth and drama- and the couple seen here are young sparkling and glamorous. Parker's work was gaining considerable favor with the public at this time- he would go on to become one of the most prolific illustrators of the upcoming decade who created hundreds of images for short fiction and commercial accounts. The magazine illustrations he did are somewhat rare- most were only seen once in the actual issues and are prime examples of the lost art of story illustration and what can be considered the Golden Age of American illustration in general. Page measures 11 x 15 and is in crisp excellent condition overall- will be incredible on display with any decor!
