Description: Wonderful 1940 softcover Saalfield book of Games and Puzzles in excellent condition. The cover is a bright lithograph in rich orange-red, green, Black, & yellow: an owl wearing a mortar board is perched on a big yellow question mark, signed by D. & D. Downs. The games and puzzles include riddles, word games, and much more, many with visual images. Some of them are quite complicated--certainly not for a child unless s/he is a genius. I would say this little treasure is in near mint condition, except there are 2 mars to perfection: on the bottom left about 1.5" from the spine is a small "trough" that extends up 1/3" and bores down through most of the pages (clearly made from an insect of some kind); and on one page 2 lines of the puzzle (6 letters total) are completed in pencil, incorrectly I think.
