Description: Louis Icart limited-edition, pencil-signed etching, executed in 1939 and hand colored. In very good condition for it's age. No damage seen on the etching or matting, some wear to original frame. Icart's etchings are generally 18 7/8" x 11 1/8" unframed. Hard to measure because of the matting.
We have not removed the backing to check on the method used for mounting, so we make no claims on it. There is NO visable mold or moisture damage. We have numerous pictures, serious buyers have only to ask.
In 1914, Icart met a magical, effervescent eighteen-year-old named Fanny Volmers, who was to change the course of his life. He was captivated by her beauty and she became his model for quite a number of his etchings. Fanny was his inspiration. Icart and Fanny had only one child, a girl, who they named Reine, meaning queen. Some of his etchings were exported to the United States and England. The 1920's were devoted to producing etchings, which the United States markets quickly devoured. In the 1930's, he turned his artistic talents to poetry. After the war, Hollywood collectors discovered the master of Art Deco and made it nearly impossible for him to keep up with the demand. The demand never waned and his art continues to grace the walls of collectors all over the world.
On December 20, 1950, Louis Icart died quietly in his sleep at his Montmartre home. He was buried not far from the Itteville home he loved so much. Fanny realized that the years they spent together were magical, exciting years. The memory of their happiness together sustained her until her death.
