Elegant and Spruce is the Waldorf Oasis Room Cocktail hour crowd enjoying revival through imbibing exotic drinks featuring Dixie Belle Gin. With Prohibition barely a whisper behind them Marvelous Manhattanites made the legal cocktail hour the place to be. Beautiful early color phtography gives this ad a definite allure all it's own capturing the Deco delights of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotels new Oasis Room- done up in novel murals in delicate pinks with booths and chairs done in plush red leather- note the after five crowd is absolutely dressed to the teeth with elegant gents in tuxedos and women in swanky slinky satin gowns with sparkling wrists and ears. Dixie Belle Gin was among the most popular American liquor brands of the period- note it's prominent appearance on the modernistic machine age metallic silver serving tray- also filled with martinis and pink gin concoctions! Ad is rare and a beautiful example of the new allure of color photography. Images from the old Vanity Fair are increasingly difficult to find- this one is a gem!
