1930 Dazzling Vintage Deco Ad- Glorious Cake Bathed in Lamplight created with Pillsbury's Cake Flower M. Cutler Artwork. Simply Gorgeous Original Vintage Color Deco Ad taken from the pages of a December, 1930 issue of McCalls Magazine. No product during the Dazzling Art Deco Era- (no matter how ordinary or prosaic), could escape a wonderfully artistic sense of glamour- even cake flour had to be alluringly presented. Here artist M. Cutler has created a sublimely sophisticated color image with a glowing sense of light and shading- a lovely luscious layered yellow cake with white frosting is seen under the soft gleam of lamplight reflected perfectly off of beautiful sapphire and marine blue walls in the background. This is the epitome of Deco chic- note the detailed design of the lampshade, the pattern on the plate, even the plant in the background. The packaging is also bright and lovely in sparkling shades of saffron and sapphire with lettering in white. This is a wonderfully exuberant example of the best that food imagery had to offer during the Art Deco Era.
