Description:
1929 Superb Vintage Art Deco Ad- Fashionable Flapper Bathing Beauty prefers Martex Mermaid Siren Design Bernard Boutet de Monvel Towel in Marvelous Miami Beach Setting. Absolutely Wonderful Original Vintage Art Deco Ad taken from the pages of a May, 1929 issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Exuberantly Stylish and Chicly Imaginative ad is done in a beautiful bright color palette which features the product one of several toweling designs for the Martex company during the height of the sun-worshiping Dazzling Art Deco Era when all the world seemed to be parked at such watering hoes as Biarritz, Santa Monica and of course newly smart Miami Beach Florida. With great sophistication and originality the Martex Towel company hired some of the finest designers/artists on the European fashion scene including the ineffably chic Erte, Benigni and Bernard Boutet de Monvel whose interpretation of the mermaid theme in Sirens in nothing short of superb. Monvel was a master illustrator of the era whose work was featured in many fine French, English and American magazines. Note the lithe fit grace of the swimmer who has jsut taken a refreshing dip and looks ecstatic to be standing on the sandy shores of Miami Beach warming herself with a Martex towel. Image is highly stylized and the epitome of smart Art Deco Elegance! Ad measures 11 x 15 and is in crisp bright condition overall- one of the harder-to-fine ads of this sensationally stylish series- note the swaying palm-trees and the couple chatting amiably on the beach in the background. Wonderful fun for the flapper generation!
