Description:
1926 Glorious Vintage Art Deco Ad- Pretty Flapper Pirate Pin-Up Discovers Rogers Brothers 1847 Silverplate Pieces of Eight Chest- A Beautiful Buried Treasure of Elegant Charms! Absolutely Gorgeous and Delightful Original Vintage Art Deco Ad taken from the pages of a December, 1926 issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Wonderful colorful and imaginative graphic done for this newly marketed product line from the estimable Rogers Brothers International Silver Company. Customers who entertained were clamoring for a smaller set of silver than the traidional 12 piece setting hitherto popular. Solution? Roger Brothers launched a new line of modern yet antique feeling silverplate, placed it in boxes meant to resemble pirate treasures and named it Pieces of eight. This is the first of many ads in this wonderful series with a stunned and stunning looking Flapper pirate maiden- (who rather resembles young screen sensation Clara Bow), coy yet flirty looking in tight shirt and scarlet knee breeches who is thrilled with her discovery- the sumptuous Spanish chest in a patina of antiqued green holding service for eight for a mere $49.50! Unknown artist gives the iamge wide-scope and depth- the piratical theme is carried out on a grand scale with an enormous porthole through which a ship in full sail tossing on a dazzling blue-waves sea can be viewed with the words Announcing the Pieces of Eight Chest written on a dark ecru scroll at the top of the page. This is a superbly done bit of Art Deco whimsicality certain to delight all who gaze it's way. Ad measures 11 x 15 and is in crisp, bright, clean condition overall. Simply fabulous in person and a great example of the pirate pin-up craze as well!
