Description:
1921 Elegant Vintage Jazz Age Ad- Beautiful Flapper in Black Finery Prefers the Delicious Tropical Flavor of Adam's California Fruit Gum Neysa McMein Artwork. Definitively Lovely Original Vintage Jazz Age Ad taken from the January, 1921 issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Elegant and Regal looking young Flapper Beauty, attired in simple black net and chiffon low-necked beaded evening finery holds up a rich bunch of purple grapes comparing the lush flavor to the taste of Adam's California Fruit Gum. Done in a subdued yet glamorous style by artist Neysa McMein this is a faultlessly chic example of her signature style full of color, style and charm. Adam's Fruit Gum began to market their product in typically middle-class magazines during the Jazz Age, seeking to distinguish the gum by making it a socially acceptable and absolutely correct thing to do while elevating it's former position as a cheap classless pastime. Wonderful image here has a majestic sense of dignified charm- note the single word in vivid orange lettering Delicious- there is no ad-copy no promise other than the ideal young blonde who graciously chews the gum. Adam's ads were absolutely the arbiter of taste and chic- and frequently utilized young and lovely talents from both Hollywood and Broadway to give the gum a little more pizazz- note the splendid packaging and the sensual inviting bowls of fruit in the portrait. Ad is in crisp bright condition overall- measures 11 x 15- one of Neysa McMein's earlier ad campaigns- will enhance any decor with it's vast charms!
