1917 Superb Vintage Jazz Age Ad- Dapper Couple Prefers the Taste of Helmar Turkish Cigarettes. Sophisticated and Elegant Original Vintage Jazz Age ad taken from the pages of a February, 1917 issue of The Munsey Magazine. Saucy, chic and stylish looking couple are seen strolling whilst enjoying the taste of Helmar Turkish Cigarettes. Wonderfully engaging image is done in a simple bold graphic style which is akin to early Art Deco and points the way to a new modern glamour. Unknown artist has used a simple palette of navy blue, white and orange- note the raised to the chin smartness of milady's frock perfectly matching her gents navy suit and the trim of his trig star boater. Beautiful image of the product is seen at the bottom of the page at an angle to alert the eye to it's dazzling grandeur. Cigarette ads during the Jazz Age often relied upon a combination of couples and ancient realms of fantasy to endorse the uniqueness of the products. Turkish tobacco was still seen as superior to it's American cousins manufacturer Smargyros were largely responsible for the majority of Turkish and Egyptian cigarettes imported to American at the time. Ad is small measuring 8 x 11 although it's stark simplicity and sophisticated charms will be gorgeous on display with any decor.
