Description: 1913 Dazzling Vintage Belle Epoque Ad- Urban Couple Enjoy Cooling Breezes from Roof of New York Skyscraper- equaled only by General Electric Fans! Absolutely Breathtaking Original Vintage Art Nouveau/Belle Epoque Ad taken from the rare pages of a June, 1913 issue of Scientific American Magazine. Marveling at the new canyons of concrete a warm urban couple step to to the roof of a typical Manhattan skyscraper to gaze down and feel the delights of cooling breezes from the madding throng below. Beautiful yet stark black and white graphic has all the dazzle and fantastic perspective of the emerging modern urban scene- towering buildings a sheer drop hundreds of feet to the avenues below where tiny creatures, motorcars, trains, trolly cars and els whirl by all part of the frenetic paced life of New York only one year before The Great War began. Magazines such as Scientific American appealed to a new spirit of progressive modernity to the new Machine Age and a mind-set which was capable of taking in and understanding the fascinating pace of the present and the immediate future. General Electric reminds the viewer that the company is capable of sending cooling breezes where nature cannot do so via the new efficient Electric fan. Eloquent ad-copy reminds the reader that this new existence in which one swelters during teeming summer months in office buildings apartments and shopping centres can all be tempered and alleviated without a brief respite on a city rooftop- one can buy and easily install a portable electric fan! The almost God-like aspects of modern science are specifically emphasized in the idea that General Electric and Science can solve problems which nature cannot fathom. Fantastic ad- artwork and perspective is extraordinarily fine- will appeal to historians for the perspective on New York social ills and the student of traditional architecture. Ad is rare-proably only appearing in larger formatted magazine such as Scientific American- condition is crip and bright overall. Wonderful how the unknown artist gives depth, perception and scope to this piece- note the feeling of strength marvel and beauty- one can practically feel the breeze along with the thrilled couple on the rooftop. Ad measures 12 x 17 and will be fabulous on display with any decor.
