Description:
Magnificently regal is the only way to describe this original Vintage Edwardian/Art Nouveau tipped-in water-color C.Allen Gilbert Calender print of 1908. Beautifully rendered in soft pastel shades combined with strong and vital bronze and purple-tinted black this is a fantastic example of beautiful calender art just under a century ago. Artist C. Allen Gilbert had a manner and sophistication all his own and was particularly skilled at presenting alluringly lovely women in the height of fashionable attire with radiant feminimity and regal elegance. This is Eleanor who graced one of his calenders done by the Gerlach-Barklow Co of Joliet Ill. Original calender art of this time period is exceptionally rare in good condition- this is a dazzling early reprint showcased in the pages of the wonderful Printing Age Magazine for 1910. Tipped-in plate on crisp glossy paper with green trim in a frame design- also features original tissue overlay. This image is in excellent nearly fine condition- the light and smoothness of it must be seen to be admired. The colors show up a little lighter on my scan- the background blue is a soft medium aqua and the gown is closer to a wine-purple than black- the roses are perfect American beauties in a deep pink with red cast. C.Allen Gilbert's work had a brief vogue during the years of the Gibson Girl craze this image proves his absolute perfection of style and form!
