Description:
1908 Exceptionally Rare Vintage Art Nouveau Ad- Sensuous Dancing Siren in Pink prefers R & T Silks Pongee and Shantung Fabrics Gorgeous Pal Artwork. Absolutely Fantastic Original Rare Vintage Art Nouveau Ad taken from the back pages of a 1908 Burr- McIntosh Monthly Magazine. This image has a lot to offer despite some flaws. Done by the deliciously daring and sophisticated French illustrator Pal it is the epitome of early exotic pin-up style art. Pal's work was often done with color humor sensuality and a touch of whimsicality- frequently seen in large format posters on the streets of his native Paris- and still highly sought after a century later. This wonderful image was created for the R & T Silks Company, meant to promote the new line of Arabic and Oriental inspired fabrics for the year 1908- a year in which the exotic allure of far-off Asia and Arabia were in high-demand due in large part to the popularity of Leon Bakst's daring costumes for the Ballet Russe. The image is done in richly bright warm shades of orange and pink with the background in contrasting dark green- note the bare feet covered in toe-rings and the sparkling emerald and gold of the jeweled girdle. Ad is rare, most likely only appearing in a limited number of magazines such as Burr-McIntosh Monthly. I feel that the image far outweighs the condition in this instance- edges are rough and there is a large corner piece missing with some browning around the area that is now missing. Forget the flaws though and do concentrate on the absolute allure and beauty of this magnificent rare century old image. Ad is done on heavy stock paper- which also adds to it's luster- measures 8 x 11- simply a fabulous bit of Art Nouveau artistry by one of the most talented French illustrators of the period. Matted and framed properly it will be gorgeous on display with any decor.
