Description:
1906 Exceptionally Elegant Vintage Edwardian Ad- Superb Gent Chooses Stylish Shawknit Socks. Dignified yet Dashing Original Vintage Edwardian Ad taken from the pages of a Fall, 1906 issue of Theatre Magazine. Aimed at the sophisticated tastes of those for followed the New York theatrical scene a century ago, the majority of beautiful colorful ads done for Theatre Magazine were created exclusively for it's pagea and thus rare indeed. Great bold color graphic features a novel bit of Edwardian fashion - a gentlemen purchasing his own socks- Shawknits of course with a variety of colors and patterned choices preferable for the man-about town circa 1907. Unknown artist uses simple dark shades to suggest the dignity of a gentleman's shopping foray- take note of the large hands and commanding shape of our shopper with his natty polka-dot tie, double breasted chesterfield coat in tobacco brown and dark green derby. His choice of stocking is naturally that of Shawknit, perfect fitting, most comfortable and most importantly knit to fit! Winderful example of the newly important interest in sartorial splendor- unduly inspired by the works of J.C. and F.X. Leyendecker. Ad measures 11 x 14- condition is good with some minor flaws- slight tearing on one corner where it was removed originally- not by me- from a bound volume. Beautiful and rare example of men's style during the elegantly charming Edwardian Era- will display nicely with any decor. Note that the paper and graphic quality- both glossy and bright give this image an added luster which the scanned iamge cannot completely capture. In person it gleams!
