Description:
Very scarce sardine serving from Porcelain Factory Victoria in Altrohlau, Austria, made circa 1904. This server is intended for serving a can of sardines or oysters or other fish inside the lovely container. A lid hides the unsightly can and there is an underplate for spills. Not many of these sardine servers survived as the heavy cans must have dinged, chipped, and broken the porcelain. This particular sardine server is especially beautiful with a great sardine image on the top with very pretty roses with green vines and leaves. The sardine is actually raised off the top lid and is used as a handle! Besides the rose design being on the top left and top right and bottom center of the lid, there are also roses on all four sides of the container. The edges of the lid and the edges of the underplate are missing about 33% of their gold trim but the way the gold leaf has worn, it is very uniform and not readily noticeable. Satisfaction guaranteed. Many other fine porcelain serving pieces amd place settings in stock.
