1899 Lively Vintage Victorian Ad- Couple Enjoy Exhilarating Afternoon of Cycling on Columbia Bicycles! Simply Wonderful Original Vintage Victorian Black and White Ad taken from the pages of an early 1899 issue of The Cosmopolitan Magazine. The first true revolutionary modern transportation of the latter nineteenth century was not the automobile it was the bicycle. The Bicycle was an affordable, easy to run modern bit of machinery which gained in popularity among all class of people within a shor tamount of itme. Seen as ideal for excersize and socializing, ads often portrayed slightly giddy looking youths of both sexes enjoying a days outing whirling about in great excitement, ladies in short skirts, gents in knickers and caps. The Columbia bicycle advertised here is seen to great advantage in a strong bold and simple black and white pen and ink drawing- note that the young couple whirl in bliss she waves her cap and allows her hair to blow in the breeze and they are both far away from any form of typical chaperonage! The tubing mentioned of nickel and steel claims to be 30% stronger than any other known tubing. Great grand graphic is the epitome of late Victorian sporty charm. Ad measures 8 x 11 and is in bright clean condition overall- lovely in person!
