Description: The iridescent marquetry of the Victorian mother of pearl box contrasts with darker tortoise shell inlays. A well defined diamond pattern is created on the top of the box which is adorned with an ornate set of intials "DM". The mosaic technique creates a geometric border pattern. The box may have been used for necessaries, sewing or decoration. The top and bottom of the box are separated with ivory. The box stands on small oval button feet.
