Description: The sterling silver (lion passant) box was made in Birmingham England (anchor) in 1890 (letter p). The sponsor marks are too rubbed to determine the name. The top is embossed with whimsical cherubs on a foliate background while the reverse side is embossed with lords and ladies arriving at a grand staircase to a home almost hidden by trees. All sides of the box are decorated with bright-cut designs. The box is too small for business or credit cards, but could adequately hold folded money. However, it would also make a lovely addition to your silver box collection. This is another fine antique offered by Chancery Lane Antiques, Inc. $550.00
