Description:
This Japanese inspired Sardine Box is of the Argenta Majolica series Wedgwood is famous for. All these designs came in a variety of colors as well. Some collectors focus only on this type of Majolica and for good reasons, a display of Wedgwood Argenta is very striking! (Please see Karmason/Stacke p 81 for more info). The one pictured here had a mate which we sold to Whoopi Goldberg on one of her visits to Toronto. A bit of name dropping here. The box is in excellent but not mint condition. There is a prof. repair to one area of the bottom part rim between 2 prunus blossoms as well as 2 repairs to some glaze roughness on the rim of the lid. All of which is not visible unless pointed out. The piece looks mint. The glaze is unflawed, no scratches. The dimensions are 8.5"w x 7"d x 3.5"h.
