Description:
A surprisingly wonderful book. The title page says "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Comprising His Dramatic and Poetical Works, Complete: Accurately Printed From the Text of the Corrected Copy Left by the Late George Stevens, Esq. With A Glossary and Notes, and A Memoir, by Alexander Chalmers, A.M. With Steel Illustration." Complete in One Volume. Published by Oliver S. Felt of 36 Walker Street in New York and Crosby and Ainsworth of 117 Washington Street in Boston. The sturdy brown leather front and back covers are in great condition. The leather on the spine is quite good. The gold embossing on the front, back, and spine are crisp. The rear cover is 100% tight and firm. The front cover is detached and needs restoration. Some of the pages have LIGHT water stains. The steel engravings are covered in nice tissue paper. The engraving depictions are quite detailed and wonderful. The publisher neglected to put the date in the book but research has shown the issue to be from the 1860's. The inside front and rear covers have a magnificent blend of colours in a stylish manner depicted the era. Very few of this edition seem to surface and they usually are in lesser condition due to the tremendous age. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
